About Kithix

Started by a PTO parent who wanted the time back.

Kithix was started by Amber Nash, a PTO parent and volunteer. The groups she was in were always fundraising.

Kithix is what she started instead. It asks nobody at school to sell anything. It begins with the parents and neighbors who already buy technology at work.

How much time a leader gives

Two in three PTO and PTA leaders volunteer up to 10 hours a week. Over a 36‑week school year that is up to 360 hours, or nine 40‑hour work weeks. The fundraisers come out of those same hours.

What Kithix does

One referral, in place of one more sale.

Parents who buy technology at work share a project their company has already budgeted; Kithix introduces suppliers; if the company buys, the school organization receives a donation every quarter after invoices are paid, while the referral stays active.

How it works shows each step and who takes it.

The name

Noun · Old English

Kithix is said KITH-icks.

Kith means friends and neighbors.

It is the kith in “kith and kin”: the people you know, as opposed to the people you are related to. Think of the parents at a Tuesday PTO meeting. Kithix is named for them, and for the technology some of them already buy at work.

Schools already have the people. They still get asked to sell candy, discount cards, and flowers.

How Kithix is paid

By the supplier side. Never by a school.

A company that works with schools should say where its money comes from. Here it is, start to finish.

Follow the money step by step

  1. 01The company pays the supplier its normal price.
  2. 02The supplier side pays Kithix for the introduction.
  3. 03Kithix sends the organization its share.

Schools pay nothing. Companies pay nothing extra.

Three commitments

What we will not do.

  1. We will never ask your families to buy, sell, or give.

Kithix starts with a purchase a company has already planned. There is no catalog, no order form, and no donation page for parents.

  2. We will never call an IT buyer to sell.

The buyer shares a project if they want to, decides whether to talk to any supplier, and buys direct.

  3. We will never promise an amount.

Every dollar figure on this site shows its arithmetic, so you can check it yourself. If nobody buys, nothing arrives, and we say so.
